Imagine: a sunny day, verdant hills, rows of vines laden with ripe grapes, and the crisp country air. We’re in the heart of the Barbera DOC area, a region renowned for the production of this intense, fruity red wine.
But today we’re not here to taste wine, but to share a unique experience with our children: the grape harvest!
Armed with scissors and crates, we wander through the rows, guided by expert winemakers who explain how to recognize ripe grapes and carefully cut them. The children are thrilled to participate in this activity; they feel part of something big and important.
They pick the grapes with pride, learn to distinguish the different grape varieties, and discover the vine cycle, from flowering to harvest. But above all, they have a blast running through the rows, getting their hands dirty with must, and inhaling the sweet scent of freshly picked grapes.
After the harvest, another surprise awaits: the grape pressing! The children are curious to see how grapes are transformed into must, the first step towards winemaking. They jump barefoot into the vat, stomping the grapes with enthusiasm and laughing heartily.
Finally, we all sit down together for a special snack, with bread and salami, cheese, and grape juice. The children are happy and satisfied; they’ve had an unforgettable experience they’ll remember forever.
This day in the vineyard was a unique opportunity to introduce the children to nature, tradition, and the culture of wine. It was a way to learn while having fun, to discover the secrets of the land, and to create precious family memories.
